Oak Island Summer Sunset Family Session

As I was driving to this session I was delighted. The weather predicted rain but the SUN was peeking out from the clouds that had lingered all day. When I got to the beach, I realized that the most threatening storm cloud that I have ever seen was behind me. We were able to get a perfect amount of the sun for some gorgeous backlighting, but the clouds were coming in hot.

This was my first session back after quarantine. I feared that I would not be able to photograph any vacationers because I had no clue if Oak Island would open up to visitors. When the B family reached out with their vacation dates I was so excited. This is my third summer working with them and it is such a joy seeing them year after year. The kids are getting so big and Blakely (who was a total surprise last summer) is now one. My favorite moment of the session was when her oldest brother, Jace, asked me to get a picture of him holding her. And while this storm was looming the entire session, they did fantastic. They laughed, they posed, and made lots of silly faces.

There is a lot of uncertainty in the world right now. I don’t think that I am alone in feeling like there is always a storm on the horizon. Whether that storm is anxiety, fear or just the unknown- take a page out of the B family’s book. Spend time with those you love, laugh a lot and if the storm does come- don’t be afraid to dance in the rain (or at least move the party to the porch). Thank you to this awesome family for allowing me to be a part of their vacation tradition again this summer. It means a lot to me. ’Til next year!
