Is pregnancy glow real?

For me, I have experienced the pregnancy waddle, pregnancy peeing my pants, pregnancy insomnia, but I am still waiting for that pregnancy glow!

In all honesty, being pregnant is not my favorite and I think a lot of moms feel this way. We are all told that “pregnancy is beautiful and a miracle” and it is… but when you wake up and you don’t recognize your own body anymore, and you can’t do normal human things like tie your shoes, it can be pretty scary.

So, being a photographer, and valuing the importance of documenting life through photographs, I knew I had to take some maternity photos. However, the thought of finding something to wear (that actually fits), showering, and putting makeup on a face that has one more chin than It had yesterday, was daunting. And probably why most women don’t consider having maternity portraits taken, especially for their second child.

But I had to tell myself: this is a real moment in my life. And the truth is, when I look at these photos I absolutely love them. I don’t see my swollen feet, or puffy tired eyes. I see my family of three for the last time. I see a little girl with a smile so big- she has NO clue what’s coming! I see my husband, usually the serious provider, laughing at my big belly. And most importantly I see myself as truly beautiful for the FIRST time in the past eight months.. I may not feel the glow, but I see it!

Thank you to my mom for not only snapping the shutter, but for making me see the importance of taking these. For all future moms and pregnant women out there- do not pass up on your chance to document this special time in your life, whether you feel the glow or not.
