This unforgettable evening began in the parking lot of the Oak Island Lighthouse hoping for the sprinkling rain to pass.
And when it did, we made our way on the beach. I first photographed Hannah and her husband Kevin, their two adorable kids Emery and Dylan, and their brand new baby boy, Caleb. What a beautiful family!
The proud grandparents with their three grandchildren were next. They had the special glow that grandparents get when they are surrounded by their baby’s babies!
And then behind me I heard Rebekah tell Thomas, “let’s go take a picture with your future niece and nephews. He replied, “you’re gonna have to wait for that.” Rebekah had no idea how short that wait would be!
Nobody knew what was about to happen next, except for her Mom and Dad. Her Dad learned of the engagement while playing golf when his future son in law asked for his baby girl’s hand in marriage. Her Mom was over the moon helping to make Thomas’ plans come true for the perfect surprise for her daughter. And from the way sweet Emmy made the “shhh” face in their photo together it’s almost like she knew too!
As it began to sprinkle again, I started to photograph Rebekah and Thomas. They were back to back when I slipped Thomas the little white box. The box that held her gorgeous ring. The ring that her Mom brought in secret. The ring that nobody would lay eyes on before Rebekah. Thomas became overcome with emotion. And when I asked them to turn and face each other, he asked her for forever.
Her hands went to her face in shock and joy. He dropped to one knee and she, of course, said yes!
Their family cheered as they embraced for the first time as soon-to-be Mr. and Mrs.
And then sprinkles turned into to rain. And it poured, but that didn’t dampen the love and excitement of this special moment. If rain is good luck on your wedding day, it has to be good luck on your engagement day!
