There are some evenings that feel like they were made to be remembered.
The kind where the light turns soft, the ocean gets quiet, and for a little while, it feels like the rest of the world has disappeared.
This Connecticut coast engagement session was one of those evenings.
There wasn’t anything complicated about it.
Just two people who are very much in love, wandering along the shoreline, laughing, playing in the water, and occasionally forgetting that I was even there.
And honestly, those are my favorite sessions.
Because your engagement photos don’t have to feel like a photoshoot.
You don’t need to know how to pose.
You don’t need to spend the entire session looking at the camera.
You don’t even need to be particularly good at having your picture taken.
You just need to show up as yourselves.
I’ll take care of the rest.
We’ll walk.
We’ll talk.
We’ll probably laugh a lot.
I’ll give you a little direction when you need it and let you be completely yourselves the rest of the time.
Because years from now, I don’t want you to look at these photographs and only remember what you looked like.
I want you to remember how it felt to be this in love.
The anticipation.
The excitement.
The way you couldn’t stop reaching for each other.
The tiny moments that probably didn’t seem important at the time.
That’s what I’m looking for when I photograph couples.
Not perfection.
Connection.
The kind that shows up in a hand reaching for yours without thinking.
In the way you look at each other when you think no one is watching.
In the laughter that happens when you stop worrying about whether you’re doing it “right.”
Because someday, this season will be a memory.
You’ll be married.
You’ll have new stories.
Life will look different.
And you’ll have these photographs to remind you of the two people you were right here, right now.
